Offshore Wind Opportunities in Virginia USA

12th May 2021 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Following the first ever White House Offshore Wind Round Table and the Biden Administration’s target to produce 30 GW of energy from offshore wind by 2030, there is no doubting offshore wind’s pivotal role in the USA’s ambition to decarbonise their power consumption by 2035.

We invite you to The Department for International Trade’s (DIT) virtual event, in collaboration with EEEGR, OrbisEnergy and Virginia Beach Economic Development, to discover how East of England companies can win new business in what promises to be a rich source of new offshore wind energy (OWE) development.

Virginia Beach is at the leading edge of the USA’s OWE developments. Already home to one of only two completed offshore wind projects in the USA, Virginia Beach will have the country’s largest project starting construction in 2024 with another development projected to produce 2.5 GW beginning the following year. It is also well positioned to service other USA projects up and down the East Coast.

With large electricity demand from major nearby cities, substantial local port facilities, continuous offshore wind speeds and a shallow seabed, Virginia presents a huge opportunity for UK businesses. This includes East of England technology and services as well as skills and experience from having supplied the offshore wind sector since its earliest beginnings. Virginia Beach’s position and assets provide an opportunity for all: from the smallest SME whose experience might be supplying companies in the UK sector, to large multi-nationals already supplying OWE developments worldwide.

Event speakers:

  • DIT at the British Embassy in Washington and the Consulate-General in New York, discussing the USA-wide implications of recent announcements
  • Virginia Beach Economic Development, describing the current landscape and how the city authorities can help British companies
  • Leading East of England companies who have engaged in Virginia already, highlighting what you can expect and how they have succeeded
  • A panel discussion with all speakers, answering any questions you may have
  • DIT East of England who will explain how DIT can help you identify and reach contacts in the business partners across the sector

This is OWE development that’s happening now and is a huge opportunity for companies looking to expand their reach in an exciting new OWE market – so register now for this essential virtual event.
