Essex laser surveying company increases turnover with £15m overseas agreement

Advanced 3D Laser Solutions (ALS), an Essex-based laser surveying company, has secured a contract worth £15million in the Netherlands after attending trade show StocExpo 2018.

The new agreement is expected to substantially increase the firm’s annual revenue over the next three years.

The Chelmsford company use laser technology to provide solutions to engineering challenges. This includes helping businesses in the petrochemical sector maintain their gas and oil storage tanks in a way that is cost and time efficient.

The business began working with the Department for International Trade (DIT) in 2015 to help establish its products overseas and as part of its Exporting is GREAT campaign, the DIT were able to provide a grant for the business to participate at the trade show in Rotterdam.

“Working with DIT was a turning point for our business.”

Colin Pittman, Director at ALS, said: “Our continued investment in our technology has been key to us securing contracts overseas. We’re dedicated to ensuring we offer the most advanced service possible to clients worldwide.

“Working with DIT was a turning point for our business. Having our International Trade Adviser on hand for all exporting enquiries has given us the confidence to branch out to new markets – we plan to explore opportunities in Panama next year with DIT’s support as demand for British-made technology continues to grow.

“We initially found it difficult to find suitable buyers overseas, however DIT helped us to overcome this by supporting our attendance at exhibitions like StocExpo, where we could meet with buyers and share our products with them directly. If we can do it, so can many other local firms.”

“Our continued investment in our technology has been key to us securing contracts overseas.”

Alan Pain, Regional Director for the East of England at the Department for International Trade, said: “We’re delighted to see another significant international success for ALS. Its advanced software has attracted clients from across the globe and we look forward to continuing to support the business as it grows even further.

“For businesses that are looking to export to new markets, finding ways to forge new business relationships can be a challenge. Meeting potential buyers face-to-face is invaluable through trade missions and trade shows.

“We have more than 30 international trade advisers located across the East of England to support ambitious businesses looking to tap into the emerging opportunities overseas. The support is out there, and I’d urge anyone who is interested to get in touch.”
